After more than a year of delays due to budget constraints, the USPTO has announced the location and target date for the Elijah J. McCoy Satellite Office in Detroit. The Office announced today that it has leased a 31,000 square foot space at 300 River Place Dr. in Detroit, Michigan. The building, listed on the National Historic Registry, was the former home to Parke-Davis Laboratories as well as the Stroh’s Brewery Headquarters. In addition, the Office stated that it plans to open the Detroit Satellite Office by July 2012, employing more than 100 persons during the first year. According to the USPTO press release, Director Kappos stated that, “Today marks the beginning of an important new chapter in the Agency’s 200-plus year history. We are expanding our operation outside of the Washington metropolitan area as part of our ongoing effort to recruit and retain the nation’s top professionals.” The full press release is available HERE.
